In an effort to find a lasting solution to the current activities of the Niger Delta Avengers, the Federal government, through the office of the Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta and Coordinator of the Niger Delta Amnesty Programme, retired Brigadier General P. T. Boroh, has taken proactive steps by engaging stakeholders in the region.
Boroh led a high level delegation, comprising representatives from the Office of the Vice President and Office of the National Security Adviser to the meetings with the stakeholders.
The delegation met with a special committee set up by the Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, to look into the recent destruction of oil and gas installations in the state.
The committee, led by the state’s Deputy Governor, Kingsey Otuaro, briefed the delegation on their activities and asked for a collaboration between the State and Federal Government to tackle tackle the issue.
In his response, Boroh assured the committee of his full support and promised to use his office to tackle the root cause of the problem.
According to him, the Federal Government will ensure that restive youths in the Niger Delta are engaged positively.
The Presidential Amnesty Programme has so far succeeded in training and rehabilitating 17,322 persons since its inception five years ago.
