The Niger State Governor, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, on Tuesday warned Peoples Democratic Party members in the state who are desperate for winning elections in the 2015 general election to either serve the people or defect to alternative political parties.
Aliyu said this at the Government House, Minna while signing into law the 2014 appropriation bill of over N98.8 billion.
He called on the National and State Assemblies to regularly scrutinise the Ministries, Departments and Agencies over which they have oversight functions.
According to him: “If you want to win election, you must serve the people and those of you in the PDP who want to win election by all means without working should defect to other parties.”
He urged the legislature to live up to its responsibility by inviting the executive at any moment to explain the reasons for the non-implementation of any project captured in the budget and check the excesses of the executive.
Aliyu said: “Nigerlites should hold me responsible if I fail in my responsibilities.
“I urge the National and State Assemblies to regularly scrutinise the MDAs and commissioners who are saddled with the responsibilities of budget implementation.”
The Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Barrister Adamu Usman, said that the House has adopted the submissions of Niger State medium term physical frame work intended for 2014 to 2016, which is in line with the provisions of the physical responsibility law, Section 13 sub section 1 and 6 as passed by the House and assented to by the governor.
Usman said the House hopes that the 2014 budget will record greater performance that will systematically consolidate on the past achievements and open a new greater opportunities for Nigerlites.
The budget, which was passed two weeks after its presentation on December 10, 2013 has greater attention in the areas of education, health, agriculture and transportation, which Aliyu said will improve the rating of the state when properly implemented.
