Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State on Saturday lauded the effort of a former Governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, for putting in place a foundation in honour of his late father, Oba Oyinlola, just as he charged those who would be running the affairs of the foundation to ensure that the real reasons behind setting it up is maintained.
Akpabio stated this at the fund raising ceremony and presentation of gifts to beneficiaries of the foundation, which held in Okuku, Osun State.
Represented by his Commissioner for Information and Communication, Aniekan Umanah, Akpabio said: “I am delighted that Prince Oyinlola has decided to put in place this foundation in honour of his late father and I pray that the aim and objectives of the foundation, which is to assist the less privileged in the society, would be maintained by the operators of the foundation.”
He noted that it was imperative as public officers, whether serving or former, to give back to the society what they had gained from the society.
He added: “I recommend this noble step to all of us here so that the society would continue to be a better place for all of us.”
In another development, Akpabio was on Saturday conferred with the fellowship of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria.
The award ceremony took place at the Lagoon Restaurant, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Akpabio, who was represented by Umanah, said he was humbled by the recognition, which he dedicated to the good people of Akwa Ibom State, whom he described as the pillars behind the uncommon transformation in the state.
