The sixth edition of the annual Indian Golf Cup, sponsored by leading telecommunications services provider, Airtel Nigeria, has kicked off at the renowned Ikoyi Golf Course, Lagos with Caddies, Starters and Professionals all competing for honours in the opening round of matches played.
The Indian Cup, aimed at promoting the game of golf in the country, while rewarding the players, is another move by Airtel Nigeria to highlight its leading role in sports development in Nigeria.
This year’s edition of the Indian Cup will attract both expatriate and indigenous professional golfers and caddies from across the nation.
Airtel Nigeria, which recently won several awards following its landmark achievements in transforming the Nigerian telecoms landscape and contributions to societal development through several social projects such as Airtel Rising Stars U-17 Tournament national championship, Nigeria’s Got Talent and the Adopt-A -School CSR initiative, has shown great commitment to sports development in the country.
Meanwhile, in the Ladies Competition decided on Tuesday, Corporal Adetunji Alaba of the Nigerian Police Club, Ikeja won the Guest category followed in second place by Folashade Oni of Miccom Club, Ada, Osun State.
Oyome Evelyn won in the Gross category, followed by Carol Majoroh while Nkechi Obini emerged champion in the Net category followed by Joel Gloria.
The Indian Cup, organised by the Indian Golfers Association of Nigeria, will end on February 16, 2013 at the Ikoyi Club, Lagos and will feature a competition for both ladies and men in the categories tournaments, followed by a gala night on the last day of the week-long event at the clubhouse.
