The Kwara State Governor, Dr. Abdulfatah Ahmed, has advised candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party in the upcoming local government council election in the state to start mapping out strategies to positively and directly touch the lives of the electorate immediately after the election.
The governor gave this charge on Wednesday in Share when the PDP chairmanship candidate in Irepodun local Government Area, Alhaji Babatunde Salami, led other candidates in the council election to pay sallah homage to the governor in his country home.
Ahmed said: “There is no excuse for failure.
“You emerged through a transparent process.
“You have been unanimously elected to represent your constituencies.
“So you have little or no problem to hit the ground running.”
The governor charged the candidates to think more of the people rather than of personal benefits.
He said: “Our people expect so much from us.
“We must see this as opportunity to impact on their well being.
“God will not forgive you if you squander or mismanage the little available resources.
“In the spirit of the Eldil Kabir, you must think more about the people, how to improve on their welfare and ensure that they live a better life than you met them.”
The governor, who promised to remain resolute in delivering real dividends of democracy to the people through a more aggressive infrastructure development and renewed rural transformation, urged political office holders to be their brothers’ keepers.
