The President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick, has announced that the Super Eagles will host South Africa at the newly constructed Uyo Stadium in Akwa Ibom State on November 19.
Pinnick said this moments after being conducted round the new stadium by Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State.
The stadium is to be commissioned on November 6 by President Goodluck Jonathan.
Pinnick described the arena as a masterpiece.
He was there with the executive committee members of the NFF.
Akpabio said he built the stadium as a way of taking Nigerian football to the next level.
Earlier, the state commissioner for Sports, Monday Uko, had described the stadium as an edifice for the entire country and not just the people of the state.
Uko argued that there was no need to push to host global events but that such events would naturally come because of the quality of the stadium.
He said: “The stadium is equipped with all the modern facilities and after inauguration, we expect it to host big events.
“A good product does not require much stress to sell.
“It will sell itself.
“We have a world-class stadium, courtesy of the vision of Governor Godswill Akpabio and we expect to stage international meets.”
Uko also stressed that the stadium, which is 98 per cent ready for use, would be open to Akwa United for its league games.
He said: “We cannot have a big stadium like this and deny our youths the opportunity of using it.
“League matches will be played at the stadium after the grand opening of the stadium.”
