Alhaji Lamido Sanusi Ado Bayero, the first son the late Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, has been named as his father’s successor.
One of the strongest contenders to the throne and former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, on his Twitter handle gave a hint to this effect.
Sanusi said a formal announcement would be made later.
He wrote: “Sunusi (Sanusi) Ado Bayero (Chiroman Kano) has been selected as the new Emir of Kano. Announcement to be made later.”
The younger Bayero was born on April 1, 1956 into the royal family of the Sullubawa Clan.
He is the first son of the marriage between late Emir Ado Bayero and his cousin.
Born at Filin Chiranchi area, where his father stayed before becoming the Emir, the younger Bayero still stays in the same house, which has become his personal residence.

His enterpreneurial spirit made him to establish Lamido and Co., a law firm in 1986, of which he is a Principal Partner.
Until his ascension to the throne, he was District Head of Gwale Local Government and a council Member of Kano Emirate.
In 1990, courtesy of Madakin Kano Umaru, he was turbaned as Danruwata, later elevated to Tafida, Sarkin dawakin tsakar gida and Chiroma (Crown Prince).
Presently the 14th Fulani Emir of Kano under Usman Dan fodio Sokoto Sultanate.
The late Emir died on Friday.
He was buried according to Islamic rites on Friday also.
