The Acting Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Dikko Abubakar, was born on May 5, 1958. Abubakar, who until his appointment on Wednesday as the acting IGP was the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 12, Bauchi, hails from Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara State and joined the police as a Cadet Inspector on August 1, 1979.
Before moving to Bauchi as the AIG, Zone 12, Abubakar had served as AIG Zone 2, comprising Lagos and Ogun States; AIG Zone 5 with headquarters in Benin, Edo State, covering Edo State, Delta State and Bayelsa State; AIG Zone 6 made up of Cross River State, Akwa Ibom State, Rivers State and Ebonyi State.
Before he became AIG, he served in different capacities as a Commissioner of Police. He served as CP Lagos State, Kwara State, Plateau State, Kano State and the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos.
As Deputy Commissioner of Police and Assistant Commissioner of Police, Abubakar had worked as DC Administration, Lagos State Police Command; ACP, Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos; ACP, State Criminal Investigation Department, Sokot State Police Command; and ACP, Federal Operations, Force Headquarters.
Holder of a Diploma in Administration and Criminology, Abubakar has attended the highest policy making training institution in Nigeria, the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies. He has also attended numerous training in and outside Nigeria. These include the Intermediate Command Course in Jos, Plateau State; the Senior Command Course, also in Jos, Plateau State; a General Detective Course of the Metropolitan Police in West Hendon, United Kingdom; a General Security Course in Israel; a General Security Course of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the United States of America; a course on International Security in the United Kingdom; and a General Detective Course at the Scotland Yard, United Kingdom.
Abubakar is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Economics and a holds the prestigious Police Medal.
