Veteran Nollywood actor, Kanayo O. Kanayo, has recounted how Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general election, reached out to him when he lost his mother in 2011.
The veteran actor made the disclosure in an interview with Afia Television on Friday.
According to him, after his mother’s passing, Obi called him to send his condolences, adding that the politician sent him N250,000 for the burial which was the price of a cow in 2011.

Kanayo stated that some people’s expectation of Obi, who at the time was the Governor of Anambra State, was to give him millions, but he only sent him the amount that could purchase a cow.
The thespian, however, stated that regardless of how much Obi sent, the most important thing was that he made time out of his busy schedule to contact him and express his condolences.
Also, he stressed that anyone who cannot make time to return his call should not identify themselves as his friend.
Kanayo said: “In 2011, I was to bury my mum and I had many senators. I had friends and I wrote to all of them.
“Two weeks after the funeral, Peter Obi called me at 1am in his little voice: ‘O sim nwanne I just got your letter, I know the burial is over. You know I would have come if I had seen the letter.’
“He sent me exactly the price of a cow. You know somebody would have thought he would give you N2 million for burial in 2011.
“I think he went to the market and priced the cow, the cow was N250,000 and that is what he sent to me. But the story here is he was the Governor but he had time to call me.”
