A former Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Chaha Akaai Benjamin is dead.
The late Federal Lawmaker who served for less than three months (October – December, 1983), as Speaker during former President Shehu Shagari’s short-lived second term, died Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at age 82.
Late Benjamin hailed from Zaki-Biam, in Ukum/Uyam Local government area of Benue State, North central Nigeria.
A trained teacher, the late Federal Legislator once served as the Head Teacher/ Supervisor, Educational Officer Administration Katsina/ala LEA Office.
He was first elected a member of the Federal House of Representatives, K/ala LGA and later appointed House Committee Chairman on Police Affairs. He was subsequently elected as the Speaker in October 1983.
In 2011, Late Benjamin was conferred with the National Award- Member of Niger (MON).
He was a member of the Elder, NKST Church ZakiBiam; Patron, Boys Brigade (BB) Nigeria No 6 Company ZakiBiam; Member/Secretary Nigeria Teachers Association (NTA); Member/Secretary Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT); Member NUT Editorial Board; Member Benue State Sports Council; Member Benue State Committee on Prerogative of Mercy; Member/Chairman, Ayatutu Farmers and Traders Initiative, Benue State-Nigeria, among others.
