Delta central senatorial bye-election peaceful despite late start

The bye-election for the Delta Central Senatorial District seat was peaceful in some of the Local Government Areas monitored on Saturday by the News Agency of Nigeria.
NAN reports that in Wards 2 and 7 of Uvwie LGA, voting had commenced peacefully.
However, accreditation of voters in Wards 2, 4 and 8 in the Uvwie LGA started late at about10am and around 11am in Ughelli North.
Also, accreditation in some wards in Udu LGA commenced around 11am, with 8am being the earlier proposed time.
The state’s Deputy Governor, Prof. Amos Utuama, who voted at 1.10pm, however told newsmen it was not expected that everything about the election would go as smoothly as expected.
Utuama said the election was nonetheless peaceful in Ward 2, Unit 4 in Otu-jeremi community in Ughelli South where he voted.
Reacting to the delay in the bye-election, Utuama said: “It does not matter how it began, but how it ends.
“It will end very well in spite of the issues characterising the take-off.”
