Nyako, Lamido, Kwankwaso meet Shagari over national unity, security

Four governors, including Governor Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State, on Tuesday met with Second Republic President, Alhaji Shehu Shagari, on the nation’s unity, security and socio-economic development.
The other governors at the meeting were Rabi’u Kwankwaso, Sule Lamido and Murtala Nyako of Kano, Jigawa and Adamawa States respectively.
The close-door meeting, which took place at the personal residence of the former president on Sama Road, Sokoto, lasted for about one hour.
The three visiting governors had earlier met briefly in another closed-door session with their host, Wamakko, at the Government House.
Briefing newsmen at the Sultan Abubakar III International Airport, Sokoto, Nyako said that the visit was to seek fatherly advice from the elder statesman.
“We had met amongst ourselves and observed that there are lots of problems currently bedevilling the nation,” he said.
Nyako identified the problems to include insecurity, overheating of polity, poverty and unemployment, among others.
He added: “That is why we are going round the region meeting with prominent northern leaders with a view to fostering unity, understanding and national cohesion.
“This is also with a view to finding plausible solutions to the problems for the country to forge ahead.”
