A 25-year-old man, Hussaini Muntari, has been remanded in prison custody for allegedly impregnating his neighbour’s 12-year-old daughter.
Muntari, from Inwala Jangele village in Batagarawa Local Government Area of Katsina State, will remain in prison custody until April 30, 2019 when his case will come up for mention before Hajiya Fadila Dikko of the Katsina Senior Magistrates’ Court.
According to the police, Muntari, the victim and her father, Mohammed Sani, are neighbours.
The victim’s father reported the incident at the Batagarawa Divisional Police Headquarters, which led to the suspect’s arrest.
The police said Sani got to know that Muntari had been having unlawful carnal knowledge of his daughter following the discovery on January 22, 2019 that she was three months pregnant.
The police added that the victim confessed to her father that Muntari was the father of her unborn child, adding that he allegedly had sex with her at different times in his room.
Muntari was consequently charged with rape under Section 283 of the Penal Code.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Sani Ado, told the court on Tuesday that investigation was still in progress.
Dikko adjourned the case till April 30 and remanded Muntari in prison.
So also was 23-year-old man, Abdulmajid Yusuf, accused of raping a 14-year-old girl in the state.
Yusuf of Mana 2 Quarters in Danmusa Local Government Area of the state was also remanded in prison custody.
He will remain there till May 8 when his case will come up for hearing.
