Another pipeline fire broke out on Saturday in Arepo, Ogun State.
No fewer than 30 persons, suspected to be pipeline vandals, were confirmed dead in the fire outbreak.
The pipeline of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation burst into fire as vandals were scooping fuel from a point they ruptured.
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps confirmed the incident.
The Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC in Ogun State, Kareem Olarenwaju, said they could not make any arrest as the vandals fled through the water ways.
Olanrewaju, who said the corps responded to the call for help by those around the scene, added: “However, no arrest was made as the vandals made their escape through Majidun side of the water ways.”
He said there was assurance from the NNPC that the intensity of the fire would reduce over time. Arepo has become notorious for rupturing of pipelines.
The rupturing of the NNPC pipeline last year led to acute fuel scarcity in the South West, especially Lagos State. Three engineers of the NNPC, who made to repair the pipeline, were killed by the vandals.
