28 killed as strange illness ravages Ondo community, + photo of victim

No fewer than 28 persons have been confirmed dead in Odo-Irele, Ondo State following the outbreak of a strange disease.
The 28 persons died over a period of three days.
Initially feared by many to be the dreaded Ebola Virus Disease, the illness killed its victims within 24 hours of coming down with its symptoms.
The symptoms included rashes, blindness and loss of consciousness.
The victims come down with severe rashes as confirmed by the photograph of one of those rushed to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido Ekiti.
The victim has since been transferred to the University College Hospital, Ibadan, Oyo State.
The Ondo State Government says it is working hard to control the strange disease.
The Ondo State Commissioner for Health, Dayo Adeyanju, however, put the number of the dead at 12.
Adeyanju said preliminary investigations showed the disease was not Ebola “as it does not manifest any of its symptoms, but it attacks the central nervous system of the victims”.
He said the state government, after getting information on the disease, immediately deployed officials who took samples from victims, which was sent to Lagos for laboratory analysis to help understand the nature of the disease.
Adeyanju said the government is on top of the situation.
He advised people in the council area to report any strange illness to the nearest health facility.
