The Senate on Thursday in Abuja said it would commence consideration of the 2014 Appropriation Bill on January 28, 2014.
The Senate has set aside the entire week, beginning from January 28, for senators to exhaustively debate the proposed estimates contained in the 2014 Budget.
The President of the Senate, Senator David Mark, made the announcement while reading a letter from the Senate Leader, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, to the effect that the 2014 Budget required urgent passage.
Mark urged the senators to prepare for a robust debate to ensure passage of the budget within the shortest possible time.
He informed the senators that a register had been opened to collate the names of senators that intended to make contributions during the debate, slated to begin on January 28 and end on January 30.
President Goodluck Jonathan, through the Minister of Finance and the Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, presented a budget estimate of N4.7 trillion to the National Assembly in December 2013.
