Alao-Akala to Ajimobi: Stop projecting my achievements as yours

For boasting that the newly commissioned central abattoir at Amosun Village in Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State was part of his achievements, former Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala has told Governor Abiola Ajimobi and his party, the All Progressives Congress, that it was time they stopped claiming glory for what they did not do.

Governor Ajimobi had, at the commissioning on Thursday, of the N3.8 billion ultra-modern abattoir, said the construction of the abattoir was conceived by his administration.

Reacting through his Director of Public Affairs, Oludare Ogunlana, Alao-Akala, the Labour Party gubernatorial candidate in Oyo State, said nothing can be more irresponsible than laying claim to what somebody did not do.

Describing the abattoir project as a triumph of truth over falsehood, Ogunlana congratulated the people of the state, especially the butchers, over the completion “after years of abandonment by the administration which had hitherto described the project as white elephant project”.

Saying that he was not surprised about the government’s action as “the present administration has laid claim to achievements of the immediate administration as its own”, Ogunlana said that the falsehood being peddled by the Governor Ajimobi’s administration will soon become public knowledge.

He said in a statement on Saturday: “Not long ago, the Governor Ajimobi led administration said that the Gate-Total Garden-UCH-Dandaru dualization project was his achievement when in actual fact, it was executed by the Otunba Adebayo Alao administration. Also, the disposal trucks which the incumbent APC government flaunt as one of its achievements were purchased by the Akala administration. Though we believe government is in continuum but the truth must be told always. Just like nobody can erase what former governors did, the achievements of the Alao-Akala regime are evident in every political zones in the State.

“The APC led administration has only succeeded in elevating the problems of the people rather than alleviating them and we know that they will not hesitate to show a non-performer the exit door when come February 28, 2014.

“The Akala’s administration, considering the fact that the butchers in the State needed a befitting abattoir collaborated with the public sector through the Public Private Partnership and it was over 80 per cent completed before Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala left office. The Ajimobi administration neglected it, lying to the public that it was a project the State could not afford but when Ajimobi administration saw that he has not fulfilled all the promises made by him, he resorted to completing all the works already embarked upon by the immediate past administration but neglected by his administration after more than years of neglect.”

Ogunlana said Alao-Akala is the only candidate that has what it takes to take Oyo State to the promised land considering his experience as public official for over a decade.

He appealed to the people of the state to be calm “as the incumbent administration is living on borrowed time”, adding: “The era of embarking on projects that are beneficial only to the few elites will soon end.”
