Yobe relocates school attacked by gunmen

The Yobe State Government on Thursday announced the relocation of Government Secondary School, Mamudo, where 29 students and a teacher were killed last Saturday in an attack by gunmen.
This is contained in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Muhammad Lamin, in Damaturu, which did not state where the school was relocated to.
According to the statement, a committee will be constituted to asses and propose ways of improving security in secondary schools in the state.
The statement said: “GSS Mamudo is one of the schools established by previous administrations but lack equipment and basic security.
“Government will devout resources to provide security and equip these schools.
“This administration has renovated 16 of such schools, but we feel it is better to merge some of them and move them to the newly constructed boarding schools with better security and equipment.”
The statement stated that government in conjunction with community leaders and security operatives were working toward evolving additional strategies to improve security in and around schools in the state.
The statement added: “That was why Governor Ibrahim Gaidam, ordered the closure of all schools until September.
“We will work within this period to identify measures that will provide conducive and secure environment for students and teachers.”
