Wimbledon: Nadal breezes into second round

Rafael Nadal is through to the second round after crushing Dudi Sela in straight sets on Wimbledon Centre Court.

Barring one wobble at the start of the third set, when he was briefly a break down, it was a brutally effective start to the Championships from the world No 1, who won 6-3, 6-3, 6-2 in one hour and 50 minutes.

He progresses to face the winner of Vasek Pospisil and Mikhail Kukushkin.

If there is any rust in his game after his recent absence from the circuit, which stretches back almost a month to his 11th French Open title on clay at Roland Garros, it was not immediately obvious on Tuesday.

He stayed well within his comfort zone and only briefly entered the high gears when necessary, such as at 3-3 in the first set. Sela had been competitive until that stage but Nadal reeled off 16 straight points to take the set and gain a break for 1-0 at the start of the second.
