Voting started around 3pm in parts of the South East, especially in the areas where the card readers functioned properly in Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports the late arrival of materials and electoral officials had heralded the elections in the zone, causing delays in the process.
Malfunctioning card readers also resulted in process delays in many parts of the various states as voters had to be given manual accreditations after verifying their names in the voters’ register.
At Ilile in Ohaji Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State, voting started around 2.45pm after the voters were accredited using the card reader.
Also in Obowo Local Government Area in Imo State, particularly in Umuariam and Alaike Amuru, voting started before 3pm due to early accreditation.
Voting also started early at Eziama Obire in Nkwerre and Mbutu in Aboh Mbaise.
In Enugu State, voting also started around 3pm in Igbo-Etiti, Ezeagu, Udi and Enugu South local government areas.
Similarly in Anambra, Ebonyi and Abia States, voting had commenced in areas where the INEC officials had concluded the accreditation of the voters.
