The Confederation of the United Nations Youth has appointed Hon. Kamil Akinlabi, the Chairman of the House of Representatives’ committee on Youth, as the Grand Commander Of United Nations Youth and Life Grand Patron.
Akinlabi is representing Oyo Federal Constituency of Oyo State in the lower chamber of the National Assembly.
A statement signed by the President and Envoy on Youth to the Secretary General of the UN, A.A. Matthew, and the secretary, Ahmad Alhendam, said the award was in recognition of Akinlabi’s contribution to youth development in Nigeria and in his constituency in particular.
The event will hold on Saturday at Milimani City conference Hall, Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania under the chairmanship of the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki Moon, while the Tanzanian President, Jakaya Kikwe, and other world leaders will be in attendance.
The statement noted that “your unprecedented achievements in your constituency and in Nigeria as a whole, particularly in the area of human capital development and youth empowerment programme qualifies you above any other individual for this award.”
Akinlabi described the award as a mark of honour to the Nigerian youth and members of his constituency in particular.
He has since jetted out of the country for the award.
