Soyinka spoke at the Punch 50th Anniversary Lecture titled “Recovering the Narrative” at Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos.
He said this at the 48th President’s party and his investiture as honorary member of Abeokuta Club, Ogun State.
Professor Soyinka stated this in Lagos State when he fielded questions from State House Correspondents on Sunday.
The former Provost of the College of Health Sciences of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, died on Tuesday at the age of 85.
Soyinka, a former lecturer at OAU, spoke at a lecture titled, ‘The Politics of Black Intellection and Creativity, at the University of Pennsylvania, the United States’, which was the first of the newly-inaugurated Distinguished Lecture series in African Studies.
The book “101 Fake News on #EndSARS” which is edited by Dahiru M. Lawal, a staff of PRNigeria, identifies major fake news items that contributed to the massive destructions after the peaceful #EndSARS movement turned to violent protests nationwide in 2020.
“How can you place the will for separation as a criminal act? That kind of language doesn’t exist in the constitution, it doesn’t exist in law. It does not exist in the catalogue of immoralities because it is not an immoral act or position to say that you want to stop being part of an entity or you want to join an entity,” he said.

Speaking during the inauguration in Abeokuta the governor noted that the operatives of the Amotekun security outfit had been carefully chosen and trained to secure lives and property.
Soyinka who lamented that the government and security agencies have failed Nigerians, said he did not know what else to recommend as panacea to the nation’s “abnormal times.”
It took the intervention of security operatives before the teacher could be rescued.
The Nobel Laureate said this in reaction of the current crisis between the herdsmen and indigenes of the South West.
Soyinka’s position on Arise TV on Saturday, came amid reports of the excesses of some members of the Amotekun Corps.
The award will be presented to Danbatta by the Public Policy Research and Analysis Centre during an elaborate ceremony slated for December 6, 2020 at the Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos State by 6pm.
The declaration was made by the Director-General of the Nigerian Copyright Commission, John O. Asein.
The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, will be joining the Lagos State helmsman and his deputy at the event, which will hold via Zoom at 12pm.
