Eleven year-old Khadijat Okunsanwo of Olowora Primary School in Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area of Lagos State on Tuesday emerged the winner of the 2014 edition of the Spelling Bee Competition in the primary schools category.
The event was organized by the Lagos State Ministry of Education.
In the keenly contested competition among 57 pupils representing the 20 local government areas and 37 local council development areas of the state, Toyosi Omoigbo of Ladoje Primary School in Orile-Agege Local Council Development Area and Boluwatife Olanusi of the Special Correctional School for Boys in Onigbongbo Local Council Development Area came second and third respectively.
The wife of Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, Dame Abimbola, who was represented by the wife of the Permanent Secretary, Parastatal Monitoring Office, Ladun Ogunbanwo, congratulated all the winners and presented the winner with a trophy and a cash prize of N150,000, while the state Commissioner for Education, Olayinka Oladunjoye, presented the first runner up with her prize of N100,000 and a trophy.
The second runner up was presented with his prize of N75,000and a trophy by the Chairman, Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Education, Hon. Wahab Alawiye-King.
The competition continues on Wednesday with the secondary schools’ category in which the next One-Day Governor will emerge.
