Flying Eagles striker, Taiwo Awoniyi, has been adjudged the Most Valuable Player as the Nigerian side beat the Junior Lions of Senegal 3-1 in the opening game of the African Youth Championship at the Stade LS Senghor, Dakar, Senegal.
The Kalmar of Sweden striker banged in two quick goals to neutralise the hosts.
Awoniyi at a post match conference vowed that the award would not distract him as the team is focused on winning the title.
His words: “I’m grateful to God for this award and I must thank my teammates for the supplies.
“We always play as a unit and that is why Awoniyi is scoring.
“The best award for me is winning the AYC title and by His grace, we would get there.”
It can be recalled that the striker won the Most Valuable Player and highest goal scorers award at the Super Six competition in Abuja to prepare the team.
