Sango, Golu mourn Shagaya, say Plateau has lost a bright star

Chief Damishi Sango, Plateau PDP Chairman and former sports minister, has described late Senator John Shagaya as “one of the brightest stars Plateau ever produced”.
“It is difficult to believe that my good friend Shagaya is gone. He was a very fine military man and a very bold and frank politician,” Sango told the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday in Jos.
Shagaya, a retired army general and former internal affairs minister, who represented Plateau South in the senate between 2007 and 2011, died in an accident along Langtang-Pankshin road in Plateau, on Sunday.
He was aged 75.
Sango, who described Shagaya’s demise as “very shocking”, said that Plateau had lost one of its leading lights.
He said: “He was a very experienced leader who had seen it all both as a soldier, politician and community leader.
“We found in him a very strong voice each time we held the Plateau Elders Council meeting. That voice is no more and will be sorely missed.”
Hon. Tim Golu who also reacted to Shagaya’s demise, described it as “very sudden and painful”.
Golu said: “Shagaya was one of Plateau’s giants that spread our fame to the outside world.
“He was a great Plateau Ambassador both in the military and politics.
“He was fearless, bold, intelligent and always ready for any conversation and engagement. We shall surely miss him and his wealth of experience and knowledge.”
