Police kill three as 20-man gang attack hotel, woman in Delta

Nemesis on Sunday caught up with a member of a 20-man armed robbery gang in Ozoro, Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State.
The suspect was killed while the gang unleashed terror on the Royal Class Hostel.
A vigilante member, one Otuke Othimue, in the course of the gun duel, was shot and injured.
The security team deployed to the scene had hectic time combating the hoodlums who on sighting the police squad opened fire.
Panic immediately engulfed the hotel premises as customers were scampering for safety.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Celestina Kalu, who confirmed the attack at the command’s headquarters in Asaba, said on receipt of the report, a combined team of Police/Army patrol and vigilante men were swiftly despatched.
“On sighting the security team, the hoodlums opened fire on them, and in the process one Otuke Othimue ‘m’, a vigilante man was shot and wounded; one of the hoodlums yet to be identified was shot dead while others escaped,” Kalu said.
She listed the items recovered from the hoodlums to include one locally made cut to size double barrel gun, a phone and one expended cartridge.
However, she said operatives attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Asaba, have killed another two members of a three-man gang.
They had held a woman hostage and were about dispossessing and raping her when the team swooped on them.
Kalu said: “While on patrol along old Abraka road, Owanta ran into a three-man armed robbery gang who were in the process of robbing a woman of her motorcycle.
“On sighting the team, the hoodlums opened fire on them, and during the ensuing exchange of gun fire, two of the hoodlums were shot dead while one escaped.”
She also listed the items recovered from them to include one locally made cut to size double barrel gun, one locally made cut to size single barrel gun and two live cartridges.
Kalu said their corpses have been deposited at the Oshimili South Local Government Area’s Public Health Department in Asaba for burial, even as she added that effort is on to apprehend the fleeing suspect while investigation is in progress.
