Piracy stalling growth in entertainment industry – Odule

The Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners on Thursday said that piracy was retarding growth in the nation’s entertainment industry.
“Piracy is killing business and is not helping the growth of the entertainment industry,” the Deputy President of the association, Dele Odule, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos.
Odule said that piracy made things difficult for producers after they invested a lot of funds in film production.
According to Odule, producers now tend to manage cost in order not to lose the market.
He blamed the poor quality of film production in the country on piracy and not the producers, urging the appropriate authorities to intervene to save the industry.
He said: “This will go a long way to help in fighting against piracy in the country.
“Film producers are not enjoying the industry anymore because of piracy.”
The Nollywood actor appealed to the Federal Government to support the growth of the industry.
Odule said: “Government should see the industry as a huge income earner and put necessary machinery in place to ensure that copyright owners enjoy the fruits of their labour.
“It is not good for some people to spend money on films and allow other people to hijack the benefits.”
Odule assured that the ANTP would collaborate with the government to achieve growth in the industry.
