As part of its determination to ensure that Oyo State hosts the 2016 National Sport Festival, the state’s Ministry of Youth and Sport has engaged the services Nilayo Sports Management Limited to handle the bidding processes for the game.
The Commissioner for Youth and Sport, Farouk Umar Alao, had during the recently held mini-sport festival held in Abuja, declared the interest of the people of the state in hosting the biannual national sport fiesta.
Plateau and Edo States are also interested in hosting the 20th edition of the festival.
It would be recalled that the last time Oyo State hosted the festival was in 1979, while Edo State last hosted it in 2002.
Speaking with The Eagle Online on Monday, the General Manager of Nilayo Sports Management, Ebidowei Oweifie, informed that the biding documents are ready for presentation to the National Sport Commission on a yet-to-be-fixed day in May.
Oweifie, who vowed that the state will beat other states to the hosting, added: “With the proposed plan, if the state eventually wins the hosting, the festival will be the best in recent years in terms of organisation and planning.
“We are looking at May to make the official presentation to the appropriate quarters but then we have commenced work on the bidding because there is no time to waste.
“May is around the corner but the only thing I can assure is that the people of Oyo State will host a wonderful National Sport Festival come 2016.”
