Osun SDP appoints 45-member campaign committee

The Osun State Chapter of Social Democratic Party has set up a 45-member campaign committee towards the August 9, 2014 governorship election in the state.
The committee, which is headed by a former governorship aspirant of the party and an educationist, Bibire Abolubode, according to a statement by the Segun Akinwusi Campaign Committee, has three university dons as members.
SACO explained that the membership of the committee cuts across the nine geopolitical zones of the state and will be inaugurated by the state Chairman of the party, Ademola Isola, on June 24.
Meanwhile, the governorship candidate of the party, Olusegun Akinwusi, has expressed confidence that he will defeat both the incumbent, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola of the All Progressives Congress, and his arch-rival, Otunba Iyiola Omisore of the Peoples Democratic Party, in the forthcoming poll.
Akinwusi, while addressing chieftains of Accord Party who crossed to the SDP at the weekend in Ejigbo, the headquarters of Ejigbo Local Government Area of the state, explained that the election won’t be about party affiliation but personality.
He said: “We have a better chance of winning the August 9 election. I am sure SDP will defeat both the APC and the PDP because Osun people will not vote for party but for personality in this election.
“We have seen the best of APC and how they failed woefully except in propaganda and we know PDP left in a hurry in 2010, so people have not forgotten their sins. We have seen the errors of these parties and we will not fall into the same pit. I need just four years to put things aright in the state.”
The former Head of Service of Osun State urged the citizenry to save the state from the hands of professional politicians who “are investors, contractors or businessmen”.
Akinwusi added: “No one can know Osun better than those of us living in it. I served the state as a civil servant for 35 years before retirement and as Head of Service I know the nitty-gritty of government. I am ready to fix all the problems once and for all.”
