Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State has condoled with the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Edo State chapter, and Mrs. Joy Ogu, widow of Mr. Chuka Ogu, a cameraman with the Independent Television, Benin, who was shot dead by assailants, last weekend.
In separate condolence messages to the NUJ and the widow, Oshiomhole said it was unfortunate that such a promising young journalist was cut down in his prime.
While conveying the condolence of the people and Government of Edo State as well his personal commiseration on the unfortunate incident, Oshiomhole said: “We are deeply pained and saddened not only by the fact of his death, but also by the way he died. However, be assured that you are not alone in mourning. Our hearts are with you at this very difficult moment.
“He would be missed not only by his immediate family, but also by the rest of us who knew him. Chuka was a well-trained professional, who applied himself to his job with exceptional diligence and drive for perfection.
“Most of us in the Government House still have fond memories of his tour of duty here. While on the beat here, Chuka gave his best. He was always a noticeably dutiful and enthusiastic member of the press crew. Eventually, he became a rich repository of archival materials on this Administration.”
He prayed God to comfort his immediate family and give them the fortitude to bear the loss.
