The Lagos State command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps said it arrested 150 suspected vandals in 2013.
The Public Relations Officer of the command, Chibuzor Mefor, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday in Lagos.
Mefor said the suspects were apprehended in connection with vandalism of some critical infrastructures of government, including petroleum pipelines, power and telecommunication facilities.
“Some of the suspects have been prosecuted while others are still under investigation. The vandalised products recovered from them have been handed over to appropriate authorities,” the statement said.
The spokesman said the command successfully sealed up over 50 illegal private guard companies operating within the metropolis.
Mefor said 10 companies that defaulted in payment of their annual renewal dues were also sealed up.
According to him, the Peace and Conflict Resolution Unit of the command handled over 150 cases.
He added: “They ranged from landlord/tenant conflict, marital conflict, breach of public peace, land disputes, assault, monetary conflict and child abuse.
“Out of these cases, over 80 have been resolved while others are still in progress.”
Mefor stated that the command was involved in disaster management with other organisations, where lives and property were saved.
He said security reporting and grassroots intelligence gathering by the command assisted the State Government in checkmating the nefarious activities of some terrorist organisations.
The spokesman added that the command would deploy 2,000 officers to various strategic locations within the metropolis at Yuletide to ensure security.
Mefor advised members of the public to be security conscious during the festive period to ensure safety of their lives and property.
He implored the public to report any strange movement and gathering to security agents.
