NLC, TUC condole with victims of Nyanya explosion

The Nigeria Labour Movement on Tuesday condoled with families and relatives of victims of the early Monday bomb explosion at the Mass Transit Park in Nyanya, Abuja.
The NLM, which consists of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress, described the attack as against the nation’s labour movement.
The labour unions expressed sadness when their leaders visited the scene of the explosion on Tuesday.
They also visited injured victims receiving treatment at various hospitals in the FCT.
The National President of TUC, Malam Bobboi Kaigama, urged relevant security agencies to rise up to the challenge and address the issue of security challenges in the country.
Pointing at the burnt buses at the mass transit park in Nyanya, Abuja, Kaigama said: “See all these buses that were damaged during the explosion, the trade unions are contributors and the green buses here are under the TUC.
“We are most affected and apart from that, Nigerian workers are affected whether in the public or private sectors.
“So, everybody is devastated with this development.
“We tried to contribute in our own little way to the system and some people have decided to pull it down.
“This is an organised park.
“This park is hit so as to send a message.
“Most of the vehicles here have one connection or the order to the system that is contributing in easing the transportation system of workers in this country.”
Kaigama explained that entrances to the FCT are not more than five, therefore government should install scanning machines at all locations.
He said: “Doing this will help to detect whatever anybody, including terrorists, will be carrying into the FCT with.”
He added that the labour movements would liaise with government on how to replace the buses so as to ease the transportation burden workers from that route face.
The NLC President, Malam Abduwaheed Omar, said most of the people killed or injured were workers and petty traders.
Omar said: “This is a very serious issue and we are wondering why the choice of this place.
“We are highly devastated and feel that government must try to overhaul the security system.
“Something is really wrong and it is high time we start to do things differently in terms of security.
“Nigeria cannot afford to continue to lose people, particularly its workforce, in such magnitude.”
