The Nigeria Football Federation has expressed empathy and support for Nigeria’s international player, Osaze Odemwingie, in his present situation with his English premiership club, West Bromwich Albion.
The President of the NFF, Alhaji Aminu Maigari, said in Johannesburg, South Africa on Friday that the Federation was fully behind the player and would do everything to comfort him in the circumstances.
Maigari said: “Osaze Odemwingie is our international player and at every point in time, we must be seen to care for the interest and welfare of our international players.
“He is in a situation with his club, West Brom, at this period but we are fully behind him and we want him to know that we wish him well and we comfort him.
“It is a very odd circumstance for a player to understand that a transfer was going to take place, only for this not to happen again and then the player is being blamed for the incident.”
Odemwingie, who played for Nigeria at the 2004, 2006, 2008 and 2010 Africa Cup of Nations and at the 2010 FIFA World Cup finals, has been suspended from training for one week by his club following his trip to London on Thursday (transfer deadline day), on the understanding that he was going to join another English Premiership club, Queens Park Rangers.
