Alan Pardew backed Shola Ameobi’s assertion that Newcastle United’s squad is not strong enough.
The long-serving striker talked about the “limited resources” available to the club’s manager after last weekend’s defeat to Swansea City.
It had been suggested that Ameobi had gone off-message given the sensitivities surrounding Newcastle’s transfer policy.
But Pardew, who is looking to overhaul the club’s squad this summer, says he has no problem with Ameobi’s comments.
“Shola’s comments were something that we carry across the whole club,” said Pardew.
“He’s an experienced player at this football club.
“He has good knowledge of the game and this football club.
“He knows there’s an improvement we need to make.”
Pardew also insisted that United owner, Mike Ashley, is also in agreement, having seen the club’s Premier League form collapse since midfielder Yohan Cabaye’s January sale.
“A stronger squad is the way forward. That’s something I don’t think me, the board and Mike have any issues on. We’re all pretty solid on it.”
Ninth-placed Newcastle take on Arsenal on Monday.
