Muslim groups hail Sanusi’s appointment as Emir

Muslim groups in the country have commended the appointment of Malam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as the 14th Emir of Kano by the Kano Emirate council, describing his emergence as “the will of Allah’’.
In separate congratulatory messages made available to newsmen, the groups said the appointment of Sanusi would usher in more development for the State.
The groups were Federation of Muslim Women in Nigeria (FOMWAN), Muslim Community of Oyo State (MUSCOYS), Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria (MMPN), Obafemi Awolowo University Muslim Graduates Association (UNIFEMGA) and Muslim Consultative Forum (MCF).
Earlier, the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), the apex Islamic body in Nigeria, had congratulated the newly installed Emir of Kano, Malam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, describing his choice as “God made’’.
Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, Secretary-General of the Council, stated in a statement that Sanusi’s appointment “convinced us that a good choice has been made’’.
In its congratulatory message, FOMWAN said the Muslim women in the country were excited with the appointment of Sanusi as the new Emir, because of his uprightness.
In the statement signed by the National Public Relations Officer, Alhaja Sururah Oyero, the group expressed optimism that the new Emir would bring his wealth of experience in both public and private service to bear.
“We affirm that it is Allah (SWT), who guides the kingmakers in the choice of His Royal Highness, Malam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as the new Emir of Kano’’, FOMWAN said in its statement.
The Muslim Women group, however, prayed unto Allah to grant Sanusi long life and endow him with more wisdom and knowledge to be able to govern the people of Kano.
In its message, UNIFEMGA urged the new Emir to forgive all those who might have wronged him and forge ahead in fast tracking enviable development to the ancient city of Kano by improving on the legacies of the late Emir Ado Bayero.
UNIFEMGA message which was signed by Prof. Wahab Egbewole, its National President, said the Association was happy with Sanusi’s appointment as the new Emir because of his world-class acclaimed record of performance in his previous national assignments.
Egbewole advised him to devote more energy in seeing to the education of children and youth in Kano, so as to reduce the incidences of insurgency and street urchins not only in the state, but in most parts of the Northern Nigeria.
While soliciting for the support and cooperation of Kano people to the new Emir, Egbewole prayed for his long reign in office like his predecessor, to be able to serve Kano people and the nation.
Alhaji Kunle Sanni, the chairman, Muslim Community of Oyo State (MUSCOYS) described Sanusi enviable record in public administration as a plus for him as the new Emir of Kano.
“We congratulate Malam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi on ascension to his father’s throne as the new Emir. We see his appointment by the Kano Emirate Council as the round peg in round hole’’.
Sanni urged him to use his new position as Emir of Kano, to make positive impact like he did at the Central Bank of Nigeria as the Governor, where he elevated the status of the apex bank and make the commercial banks vibrant.
Similarly, the Muslim Consultative Forum (MCF) felicitated with the new Emir of Kano, Malam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi on his “Allah ordained appointment’’.
MCF in a message signed by Malam Usman Idris urged the new Emir to remain focused, diligent and God-conscious in the discharge of his duties.
“As a member of the Muslim Community, we repose confidence in you as the right man with the capacity to re-engineer and reposition the Kano Emirate Council’’, MCF said.
The Muslim media Practitioners of Nigeria (MMPN) urged the monarch to ensure that he replicated the feat performed as Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, where it was ranked as one of best in the world.
MMPN message signed by its Chairman, Abdur-Rahman Balogun stated “ we commend the Kano Emirate Council for its transparency and vision.
The synergy manifested in the exercise adds another feather in the cap of the Council’’.
“The Council could not have made a better choice as Sanusi’s antecedents speak most vehemently’’, MMPN said.
MMPN recalled how Sanusi took the CBN to great heights as its Governor for five years which earned him and Nigeria banking industry respect globally.
The former Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria was announced as the new Emir of Kano on Sunday June 8, following the demise of Alhaji Ado Bayero, on Friday, June 6, at the age of 84, having reigned for 51 years.
