Omolewa Ahmed, wife of the Kwara State Governor, Dr. Abdulfatah Ahmed, on Thursday in Ilorin donated wheelchairs to some physically challenged persons in the state.
Ahmed, who is the Trustee of the Life Empowerment Anchors Hope Charity Foundation, said “the physically challenged are part and parcel of the society and should be taken care of”.
The governor’s wife, who was represented by Hajia Aminat Kannike, her Special Assistant on Special Duties, said the foundation was distributing wheelchairs to 10 beneficiaries in the first batch.
She said motherless children had also been adopted under the “Adopt Child Schem” of the foundation.
“I urge people in the state to always reach out to the less privileged with whatever they can offer,” Ahmed said.
The governor’s wife also presented foodstuff and clothing materials to those known as “the Omolewa Ambassadors” across the 16 local government areas of the state.
She said the ambassadors were volunteers who served as outreach agents in her empowerment scheme.
“Food items, which include rice, spaghetti, lace materials and cooking oil, will be distributed based on the number of wards in each of the 16 LGAs,” Ahmed said.
Responding on behalf of Omolewa Ambassadors, Alhaji Ola Sheu, commended the state government for the effort.
“We are giving you the assurance that the donation will get to the appropriate quarters,” Sheu said.
