Super Eagles’ goalkeepers’ trainer, Ike Shorunmu, has assured the nation that the Bafana Bafana of South Africa would not stop the African Champions from defending the AFCON title in Morocco.
Speaking against the backdrop of the AFCON 2015 draws that paired the two sides and Sudan at the weekend, the goalkeeper turned coach opined that South Africa are no threat to Nigeria in football, saying the Super Eagles will qualify from the group unhurt.
His words: “At the moment, we are giving the World Cup all the necessary attention.
“It was a good draw.
“Though, there are no more minnows in football, but I doubt if South Africa has the qualities in their armoury to stop the Eagles.
“The battle is between Nigeria and South Africa but that does not mean we are not going to treat other opponents like Sudan with all seriousness.
“I’m sure the Super Eagles’ players are aware of what it means to defend the title they won in South Africa.
“So, they will be ready to give all opponents a big fight en route Morocco.”
Nigeria will open their Nations Cup qualifying campaign at home against winner of the play offs among Congo, Rwanda, Namibia and Libya on September 5 or 6.
