Mission plans town hall meeting with Nigerians in South Africa – Envoy

Nigeria’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Ambassador Ahmed Musa Ibeto, says the mission is planning to hold town hall meetings with Nigerians in that country to create awareness among them.
Ibeto told the News Agency of Nigeria in Pretoria, South Africa on Wednesday that after presenting his Letter of Credence, the mission would commence the exercise in all the nine Provinces of the country.
Ibeto said the mission would invite Nigerians to let them know that they could contribute positively to the development of their country and South Africa.
He said: “We want to let them know that the same efforts in carrying out activities that are not in line with the law, are the same they will put in carrying out activities that are lawful.
“We will enlighten them to conform with the laws of their host country and that it is useful to be law-abiding citizens.”
The envoy said many Nigerians were contributing to the development of South Africa in various fields and sectors.
Ibeto said: “There are many Nigerian professionals doing well in South Africa and we are impressed with their records.
“However, there are some insignificant numbers of them that are not doing well.”
According to him, the mission will partner with the Nigerian Union to reach out to these Nigerians on attitudinal change.
Ibeto said: “The mission will make these Nigerians realise that it is important to be law-abiding instead of being on the wrong side of the law.
“The town hall meeting is aimed at meeting our people to educate them on the need to be useful to themselves, their country and the host country.”
