Doctor’s killing: Two arrested, dead patient’s husband suspected

Homicide detectives attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba, Lagos State have arrested two persons following the killing of a medical doctor in Agege area of the state.

The deceased doctor, Samuel Adeboyega, was shot dead in his clinic at 13, Ogundele Street on Easter Monday about 7:15am.

Two gunmen on a motorcycle had stormed the clinic and seized the doctor, who was attending to a patient.
The gunmen allegedly dragged Adegboyega on the floor to the entrance gate of the clinic and shot him in the lower abdomen.
They then fled on their bike.
According to a resident of the area, who does not want his name in print, the gunmen left the doctor to bleed to death though those around rushed him to the hospital for medical attention immediately the gunmen left.
The resident said: “We heard the bike noise in front of the hospital and we thought it was patients coming to the clinic.
“This was 7am.
“Then later we heard the gunshot.
“When we rushed out, we saw the doctor bleeding and groaning and we rushed him to the General hospital at Oke-Odo.
“But the doctors refused to treat him, saying that they needed a police report.
“We were angry and told them to treat him first.
“But they refused.
“He was talking too and we ran to get a police report at the Abbatoir Police Station.
“This took us like close to an hour and when we came back, we heard the doctor had died.”
It was gathered that the case was reported at the Abbatoir Police Station.
It was later transferred to the SCID.
It was further gathered that two staff of the clinic, who were on duty with the doctor, are undergoing investigation over the murder.
The hospital has since been shut as other staff of the clinic fled over fear that they would be arrested too.
Meanwhile, the family of the late doctor wants the police to bring the killers to book as they allege that Adegboyega was killed over the death of a woman who was delivered of a baby in his hospital on Easter Sunday.
A family member, who identified himself as Leke, said: “Our doctor delivered a woman of her baby on Sunday but the woman sadly died and her husband, an Igbo man, stormed the hospital that same Sunday evening with about 10 okada riders and they threatened to kill the doctor.
“Now, they have killed him and have gone into hiding.
“So the police should investigate this incident thoroughly and bring the killers to book.”
