Mark charges NFF to pick 2014 World Cup ticket

The Senate President, David Mark, has urged the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation to do everything humanly possible to pick the 2014 World Cup ticket.
The Public Hearing on a Bill for an Act to repeal the Nigerian Football Association Act Cap N110 law of the Federation of Nigeria 2004 and enact the Nigerian Football Federation Act to provide for the administration of the game of football in Nigeria and for related matters (SB.138), was held on Thursday at the Senate Conference Room of the National Assembly Complex, Abuja and it was there Mark admonished the leadership of the NFF on the World Cup ticket.
The Senate president in his talking point to the Senate Committee on Sports, charged the NFF to continue from where it stopped when not won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa to also pick the 2014 World Cup ticket.
He said: “NFA (NFF) must not rest on its oars as this noble association needs to ensure that Nigerians does not qualify for the 2014 world Cup in Brazil but also puts up an outstanding performance to the glory of the nation.”
Mark commended the Nigerian Football Association for its improvement, which is manifested in the recent laurels Nigeria’s various football teams have won for the nation, especially the Africa Nations Cup won by the Super Eagles.
He also commended the NFA for its proactive approach, which led to the Golden Eaglets and the Falconets winning silver medals at the CAF U-17 Championship and the FIFA U-20 Women World Cup respectively.
However, he urged the NFA (NFF) not rest on its oars “as this noble association needs to ensure that Nigerians does not only qualify for the 2014 world Cup in Brazil but also puts up an outstanding performance to the glory of the nation.”
He praised the emergence of the bill as it seeks to accommodate some of the inherent inadequacies in the extant law.
He observed: “It is important to strengthen the operations, techniques and technologies of the NFA in order to cope with global best practices.”
