Foreign tennis players have began to register and apply for Nigerian visas ahead of the Lagos Governor’s Cup Tennis championship.
The tournament’s media coordinator, Taiwo Adelu, informed that registrations for the competition has increased following International Tennis Federation confirmation that the Championship will hold from December 5 to 19.
Adelu’s words: “Top tennis players from China, South Korea, Netherlands, Ukraine and Slovakia to mention a few have began to apply for Nigerian visas in order to be part of the 15th edition of the Governor’s Cup.
“They have also gone ahead to register with the ITF and the list of interested players have continue to grow. With this development, I have no doubt that this edition would surpass the previous ones.”
The tournament, which is jointly sponsored by First City Monument Bank and Etisalat Nigeria, is divided into two weeks, Futures 3 and 4.
According to the ITF, the first week (Futures 3) will be supervised by South African referee Iain Smith, while Futures 4 will be handled by another South African official, Anton Rens. Both referees have been regular visitors to Lagos in the past Governor’s Cup editions.
