President Goodluck Jonathan and former military leader, retired General Yakubu Gowon, were among the many dignitaries in Jos, Plateau State on Friday for the funeral rites of Chief Solomon Lar.
The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur; the Chairman of the PDP’s Board of Trustees, Chief Tony Anenih; and the Speaker, House of Representatives, Hon. Aminu Tambuwal, were also at the final funeral at the Rwang Pam Stadium.
Also at the stadium to bid Lar farewell were former Senate President, Chief Ken Nnamani; Governors Gabriel Suswam of Benue State, Idris Wada of Kogi State, Babangida Aliyu of Niger State, Rochas Okorocha of Imo State and Tanko Al-makura of Nasarawa State.
Ministers in attendance included Labaran Maku (Information); Abba Moro (Interior); and Bala Mohammed (FCT).
The Senate President, David Mark; and the Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, also graced the ocassion.
Others included retired senior military officers such as General T. Y. Danjuma, General Joshua Dogonyaro as well as Senator Isaiah Balat, the Special Adviser to the President (Special Duties).
ASecurity was tightened around the venue and other parts of Jos metropolis while the funeral lasted.
Security personnel were deployed to strategic junctions, while vehicular movement was diverted to other areas considered less busy.
Felicia Anselm, spokesperson of the Plateau State Police Command, while commenting on the security arrangement, declared that adequate measures were put in place to avoid any hitch.
Amselm said: “We have left nothing to chance.
“We have enough men on ground and the situation is fully under control.”
Late Lar, former Plateau State Governor, died in the US on October 9 at 85.
