One of the longest club chairmen in Nigeria, Dominic Iorfa, has resigned his appointment with Lobi Stars after almost 14 years in the saddle as Vice Chairman/Technical Director.
In a statement personally signed by him, Iorfa said he decided to step aside to face other challenges after managing Lobi Stars for nearly 14 years.
“I will be stepping aside as the vice chairman of Lobi Stars at the end of 2015 to face other challenges after managing the club for nearly 14 years,” the statement reads.
Iorfa, the former Super Eagles striker, joined Lobi Stars in 2001 and two years later led the team to win the FA Cup after beating Sharks in the finals in Kaduna with Godwin Uwua as the coach.
Under him, the team lost in the final of the same competition in 2005, 2012 and this year to Enyimba, Heartland and Akwa United respectively.
The team’s best season in the domestic Glo Premier League was in 2012 when they finished third behind Kano Pillars and Rangers.
It was a year Iorfa took direct charge of the coaching job of the team.
The team played in the continent thrice under Iorfa in 2004, 2006 and 2012, but their best result was a second round qualification.
However, in the last couple of seasons, Lobi Stars had battled to reclaim the Premier League title they last won in 1999, two years before Iorfa was named head of the management team by the Benue State Government.
