Governor’s wife restates commitment to stem cancer-related death

The wife of the Kwara State Governor, Omolewa Ahmed, has reiterated her determination to stem the rising wave of cancer-related death among the womenfolk in the state.
Ahmed, who said this at a media briefing in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, on Sunday, said that she would employ advocacy campaigns to check the occurrence of breast and cervical cancer among women.
She said that cancer had continued to claim many lives in spite of spirited efforts by her non-governmental organisation, LEAH Charity Foundation Cancer Centre, and other groups to check the trend.
The governor’s wife said that she would not give up until her dream of taming the scourge was achieved.
She said her NGO would carry out cancer screening exercises for women at affordable cost on February 4 to all the nooks and cranny of the state.
Ahmed said that the exercise was part of the sensitisation activities marking the 2014 World Cancer Day.
She advised parents to monitor the activities of their female children and discourage them against early sex to guide against the spread of the disease.
The wife of the governor also advised women to cultivate the habit of going for regular cancer screening to ascertain their status.
