The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has congratulated the All Progressives Congress (APC) on its purported merger with the Governors and members of its splinter group, ‘new PDP’ but hastened to warn that the defectors would soon show disloyalty to the party.
The National Publicity Secretary of the ruling party, Olisa Metuh, in a statement on Thursday in Abuja, said that the PDP would not lose sleep over the action of the rebels, reminding the APC chieftains that the Abubakar Baraje-led splinter group is not recognized by law.
Metuh, argued that what happened between the splinter group and the APC on November 26 could not be regarded as a merger because, the new PDP was never a political party and neither recognized by law nor the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The leadership of the APC had met with the leadership of the new PDP with the G7 Governors in attendance and announced merger at the end of the three hours meeting held at the Kano State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja.
Metuh said, “Our attention has been drawn to reports from some persons passing off the cross carpeting of a group of former PDP members to the APC as a merger. This information is false and is intended to mislead the public.’’
“From the above, it is quite clear that there hasn’t been a merger but an opportunistic cross carpeting of disloyal elements into the APC.’’
“We would like to draw attention to the fact that a tree that has been pruned of its underperforming branches grows better and blossoms with new life. This is the case in biology as well as in politics.’’
“As for the All Progressive Congress (APC), we congratulate them on their new entrants.
“We also like to recommend to them that a man who brings home ant-infested maggots should not complain if he is visited by lizards.
“The PDP is losing no sleep with this cross carpeting because disloyalty is a habit. It’s only a matter of time before men who are disloyal to their mother would become disloyal to their step mother”.
