Five dead, others injured in Katsina accident

The Federal Road Safety Corps has confirmed the death of five persons in two separate motor accidents on Monday in Kurfi, Katsina State.
Alhaji Habu Dauda, the FRSC Sector Commander, said on Tuesday in Katsina that the first accident involved a Golf car with registration number AE 838 DTM and a Honda Accord car with registration number FE 62 ABJ.
Dauda said the two vehicles had a head-on collision at Batsari junction, a few kilometres to Kurfi, resulting in the death of three persons while three others sustained injuries.
According to him, the second accident involved a Peugeot 406 car with registration number EK 871 ABJ and a Toyota Corolla car with registration number AA 787 SFN.
He said that the two vehicles also had a head-on collision at Dabawa village, a few kilometers from the scene of the first accident.
Dauda added that two persons died immediately, while six other passengers, who were critically injured, were rushed to the hospital for medical attention.
The sector commander attributed the two accidents to reckless driving and advised motorists to avoid dangerous driving, wrong overtaking and over-speeding, saying they were the major causes of road accidents in the country.
In a related development, the Chairman of Kurfi local council, Alhaji Nura Amadi, has visited the injured persons on admission at a hospital in Kurfi and pledged to assist them in settling their medical expenses.
Amadi prayed God for the repose of the souls of the deceased and urged motorist to always abide by traffic rules and regulations.
