A five-man contingent of the national under-21 male and female beach volleyball teams will on Tuesday leave Nigeria for Larnaka in Cyprus, an official said on Monday in Abuja.
The Chairman of the Beach Volleyball Commission of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation, Musa Nimrod, told the News Agency of Nigeria that the contingent comprised of four players and a coach.
NAN reports that the teams are going to participate in the FIVB U-21 Male and Female Beach Volleyball Championships scheduled to hold from July 23 to July 27.
Nimrod said: “We have successfully secured visas for the teams and their tickets have been bought already, so they are set to leave for Cyprus to participate in the championships.
“The five-man contingent to Larnaka, to be led by the team’s Head Coach, Bernice Imoo, will leave Abuja for Lagos tomorrow (Tuesday) where they will catch a direct flight to Larnaka the same day.
“The two male players in the team are Sam Godwin and Godwin Shekarau, with the two female players being Tochukwu Nnogura and Bukky Oluwatosin.”
Several age-grade teams of the national beach volleyball squad have suffered several setbacks in recent times, starting from visa denial by some countries hosting FIVB Championships.
The most prominent was by the Polish Embassy, which in 2013 and 2014 denied the under-23 male and female teams entry visas to Poland for championships.
