The Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, has said a former Director General of the National Sports Commission, Alhassan Yakmut, is yet to account for the N2.9 billion that was released to him for the All Africa and Olympic Games preparations.
Dalung, on Friday, said Yakmut must account for the money.
The NSC has since been scrapped and Yakmut moved to the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs as a Director.
But Dalung said on Friday while speaking with newsmen that no explanation on how the money was spent has been given to him.
Over N600 million is believed to still be left of the fund.
Dalung explained that when he went to the venue of the Olympics in Rio, Brazil recently with some members of Olympic Games Planning Committee, he had to go out to source for funds to pay for flight and accommodation of members, which was about three times the normal cost because of the exchange rate.
Dalung said Yakmut courted his trouble first by sacking high performing Directors without informing him.
But he later pacified the Directors by reengaging them before they reported the matter to the American Embassy for breach of contract.
He said the NSC no longer exists since the Decree that established it in 1971 was not updated when a law reform took place in 2004 in the country.
