Ex-Governor Boni Haruna returns to PDP

A former Governor of Adamawa State, Boni Haruna, on Tuesday returned to the Peoples Democratic Party, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.
NAN recalls that Haruna, who served as Adamawa State governor on the platform of the PDP from 1999 to 2007, left the party to the then Action Congress along with his mentor and former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
Haruna also contested for the Senate seat in Adamawa North Senatorial District in the last general election on the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria, but lost to Senator Bindow Jibrilla of the PDP.
Until his return to the PDP, Haruna was known as the ACN Leader in Adamawa State.
Announcing his return to the PDP at a press briefing on Tuesday in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, Haruna said he decided to return after consultations with PDP stakeholders in the state.
He added that his decision was informed by appeals from the leadership of the party for all founding members and those that left to return.
Haruna said with his return, he would work with other stakeholders in repositioning the party for more successes in the state.
He said: “I promise you that we are going to work and reposition the party.
“I want to assure you that the party will no longer win elections by slim margins in this state.”
Haruna, who was presented with PDP membership card at the ceremony, urged for respect for the tradition of the party where the president was the national leader of the party and governors as state leaders of the party.
In his remarks, the state Secretary of the PDP, Tahir Shehu, said Haruna had fulfilled all the necessary conditions of being a party member right from the ward level and was therefore accepted.
Shehu urged other members of the party that left to return back.
