Two-time Champions League winners, Enyimba, averted an imminent upset to beat Angel de Notse 3-1 in a CAF Champions League tie at t’he Aba Stadium in Abia State on Sunday.
Enyimba’s Sibi Gwar, who was a second half substitute, grabbed a brace to ensure Enyimba were saved from home defeat after the visitors took the lead in the opening 40 minutes.
The Angels took their one-goal lead into the break but Ifeanyi Ede, Abdulrahman Bashir and Kingsley Sokari were all guilty of missing scoring chances for Enyimba in the first 45 minutes.
The restart for Enyimba was filled with uncompleted passes and a flurry of misses.
Gwar, who had replaced Ede just before half time, turned on the show with seven minutes left by scoring the equaliser.
Kingsley Sokari pounced and gave Enyimba the lead in the 85th minute.
Five minutes later, Gwar scored his second goal and Enyimba’s third to give the Aba club a two-goal lead.
Enyimba will now take a two-goal lead into the second leg scheduled to hold in Lome next weekend.
